Cakes On The Mind

I'm in the process of planning my daughter's 4th birthday party and am so excited about making her cake. I always have fun, and love it when they like them too.
Can it get stressful? Um, well, yeah, but in the end it's so fun to see her face.
I try to plan ahead so I'm not stressed, hopefully that works this time.

So I thought I would share the cakes/cupcakes I've made in the past.My daughter's 1st birthday.
My other daughter's 1st. Bad shot of them, but you get the idea.
My daughter's 3rd b-day. For the longest this is the one she wanted for her 4th also. Good thing she changed her mind.
We're big OU fans, so I had to represent with cupcakes at our football party.
My hubby's 30th b-day cake. He wanted a certain strawberry cake, not a generic one that was decorated.2 baby shower cakes...I love making these cute babies.

My goal for this b-day is a tea set! I'll post plenty of pictures.

What I've Done In 1 Year

I thought I would share some things I've done this past year. It's a little of everything.

I added flowers to my shower curtain to make the hall bathroom a little more feminine.
Then I painted some wooden plaques for a bow hanger to match the shower curtain.
I found these little plates at Michael's on the dollar aisle.
Of course I planned on painting them. This is what they look like now...
Speaking of a dollar...I found these at the Dollar Tree. I've always wanted some of these stone thingies, I don't know the correct name for them obviously, but they were an ugly orange around the edges.I rubbed red paint over the orange, but still didn't really like them.I went over them again with black and they turned out better. They hang above my kitchen cabinets so you don't really see them up close. For me it's a lot of sayings in one spot, but I'll keep them there for awhile at least.

I found these at the thrift store down the road for $1.
And, yes, painted them too.The candles could be a little shorter still, but otherwise they turned out great for a little narrow space on my living room wall.

Then one morning I was getting ready to leave to go garage saling when my daughter dropped her piggy bank and busted it. She loves her piggy bank...who wouldn't when you get to put money in it that you don't even have to work for.

Anyways, I found this later that morning at a garage sale for $1!She was this ladies' when she was a kid, so a little old, but she just needed, what else, but some PAINT!I sprayed her black and then finished her up with my little brushes. I went with these colors because she will one day match my girls' room. Oh, someday...and then on that monumental day I'll show you pictures of that too.

And my daughter loved it...she just mentioned it tonight actually. :)

I should leave it at that for now. More to come on the past year of thrifty buys and redos.

Spray Paint!

I bought this little desk from a friend's leftover garage sale stuff. The girls love to draw and color and it'll work great for a little bit of preschoolin', so this was perfect...except the color.
So yesterday I did a little spray painting. And turned it to this...
I would have done it bright pink, but I couldn't find that color at Wal-Mart and black will match their room when I finish it...plus it cost $1 in black. :)

Creative Outlet

So this is the beginning...

I guess I just needed a space for my creative things. I like to make things, redo things, paint things, hot glue things, and other random things. This is my space to share what I've done or am in the process of doing (there may be lots of those). It may take a couple tries to get things looking how I want, but that's part of it, right?

Hopefully I can pass on some good ideas, or even just things not to do...cause that's always helpful too. Just to let you know, I do steal ideas. I'll try to give credit where credit's due though. :) Did I mention I'm pretty cheap, I mean thrifty? So that's when redoing, painting, and hot gluing comes in a lot of times.

We moved into an apartment almost a year ago ,while my husband expands his horizons in law school. We moved out of a beautiful home he had built us 2 1/2 years prior. So I am trying to make this our home and not just a little apartment that is identical to every other apartment here.
